Sunday 3 February
Lodi Gardens
We decided to have a gentle start so we
took a taxi to Lodi Gardens. Stepping from the busy streets into the relative
peace of tropical trees and grass, the city noise retreated to a distant hum.
We explored the ancient mosques and hexagonal tombs, dating back to the 1500s.
Beautiful, unfussy buildings with traces of a more colourful past in the vivid
blues of the few remaining tiles.
We saw parakeets, mynah birds and geese.
Huge circling kites landed in a nest in the treetops or came to drink at the
hose.
There was even a mongoose which popped put from tree roots to scurry
along through the long grass.
Lots of Indian families arrived later in
the morning armed with picnics, rugs and footballs. It’s quite the place to be
to socialize. Quite a few couples were enjoying a quiet rendezvous and we
remembered this was where Matt proposed to our daughter Naomi about 6 years
ago! What a great setting for a memorable romantic moment!
