Asha 25 years: Thanksgiving Service

Monday morning began a week of festivities as we met together in the building where Freddy and Kiran’s church meet.  There were gathered together most of the Asha staff, Asha supporters from around the world, members of the Board of Trustees, and many people from the slums of Delhi. We met with one purpose – to thank God for an amazing journey, from the birth of Asha 25 years ago to the present. So much has been achieved in that time and we heard several amazing and miraculous stories from people whose lives have been touched by Asha.  Many of the supporters from around the world prayed for various aspects of the work, looking forward to the next 25 years!  Ian Farr spoke about compassion and active justice, and the Chairman of Asha’s board, Ivan Powar spoke about Kiran bringing to life her dreams in those early days.  He didn’t understand then how much they expressed the Heart of God.  He talked about being inspired by Kiran and Freddy;s faith during the difficult times and how the Board were often challenged with new ideas of how to support and  encourage the poor!  I was asked to close in prayer.

It was so good to meet so many friends.  I was particularly blessed when some of the ladies from Mayapuri came up to me to say hello afterwards because they recognised me.  Talking about this at breakfast this morning, JH pointed out that for them to speak to a western man would have been unthinkable 25 years ago – which in itself demonstrates something of what Asha has achieved!
